In the second game of the Boston Red Sox's regular season, they could not come back from a 9-5 loss the previous night. In fact, Jon Lackey gave up that many runs in just 3 and 2/3 innings, including a grand slam off the bat... of Adrian Beltre, to lose 12-5. I find it funny that Beltre would immediately slug a homer for the Rangers, and against the Sox, no less. David Ortiz smashed his second homer in as many games, this time a two-run smash to drive in Adrian Gonzalez in the second, but Lackey could not hold it. Ortiz added another ribbie in the fourth with a groundout to again bring Gonzalez to the plate to tie the game at 3, but Lackey gave up another 6 in the fifth to lose the game. Jacoby Ellsbury, who has been smoking hot in the preseason, followed through with a two-run shot of his own to bring the Sox a little closer, but by then Tim Wakefield was in, then Dennis Reyes came on for some garbage time. The one bright spot I personally draw from this game is Gonzalez's three hits and two runs, as it shows that Adrian can hit with the Sox.Today at 2:05 ET, the Sox will face the Rangers in the third game of the series. The Sox will be glad to be free of Texas, especially considering how terribly they have done in the first two games. Clay Buchholz gets the start, (finally), and he will face Matt Harrison of the Rangers. Harrison is a reliever and spot starter who has a career 5.39 ERA, and a 5.67 ERA in 32 starts split over three seasons.
Trivia
After Carl Crawford went hitless last night, he is now 0-7 with 4 strikeouts for Boston.
