On Monday, the Sox fell to 0-4 as Josh Beckett was outdueled by fellow Josh Tomlin to lose 3-1. Jarrod Saltalamacchia nailed his first hit as a Red Sock to give them the 1-0 lead, but J.D. Drew was thrown out at home trying to score by cannon-armed Shin-Soo Choo. and Beckett gave up three quick runs to lose. Dustin Pedroia had two hits while Adrian Gonzalez went hitless for the first time this season. Tomlin pitched 7 innings and gave up just three hits, while Beckett gave up 5 hits and walked 4 in just 5 innings to take the loss. Matt Albers struck out the side in the 6th, but the Sox could not come back. The Sox lost last night's game as well. This one was incredibly ugly, as proved by the two straight Hit-By-Pitches. Dennis Reyes hit two batters in a row, and Daisuke Matsuzaka hit another guy. Adrian Gonzalez smashed a two-run shot, but Shin-Soo Choo hurt the Sox for the second straight night, this time with the bat and a two-run blast to right field. Asdrubal Cabrera added a three-run bomb and Matt LaPorte touched up Tim Wakefield for a solo blast. Dice-K was tagged for the loss, but Dennis Reyes really lost the game with his three runs given up. In addition, Dan Wheeler was the one who gave up the three-run jack to Cabrera, so he also helped lose it. Really, Matsuzaka pitched quite well.
Trivia
Choo had 17 assists last year to lead the league from the outfield, so his assist on Drew was not too abnormal.
