Sox finally wrap up first win

It's been said that winning is sweet. Especially winning against your rivals at home. How about winning against your rivals at home to break out of an 0-6 slump at the start of the season? Just amazing. The Boston Red Sox pulled out their first win of the season in their home opener against the New York Yankees. Dustin Pedroia crushed a homer in the first and nailed a two-run single to put the Sox up for good in the five-run second. Jon Lackey went five innings and gave up all six runs in the 9-6 win, and he earned the win due to a run in the fifth. Pedroia had three hits on the day, while Adrian Gonzalez had two and Carl Crawford made two nice catches out of the leadoff spot. Unfortunately, Crawford couldn't get a hit, but I bet Terry Francona will be going with this lineup again tomorrow! David Ortiz, J.D. Drew, and Jarrod Saltalmacchia each had a pair of hits in the 6, 7, and 8 spots. This is Drew's contract year with Boston, and he is coming through well. Today, he nailed a two-run single in the seventh to pad the Sox's lead up to three. Jonathan Papelbon then came on in the ninth for his first save, and boy did he look good. He struck out the first two batters he faced and got a popup on the third while throwing just 11 pitches. Today's MVP: Dustin Pedroia.

Trivia
Crawford batted leadoff today for the first time all year.
